PDF highlight
Introduction
In this article we'll introduce Noteey's PDF highlight feature. As one of the most common document formats, PDF is particularly important in research and academic fields. Noteey has developed a powerful yet easy-to-use PDF reading and annotation function. Let's see how to better study and research with it.
Basic PDF Highlight Operations
Importing a PDF
To start, import a PDF into Noteey. Once successfully imported, whether in the library or on the canvas, you can begin adding highlights when opening the document.
Types of Highlights
We support two types of highlights:
- Text Highlight: Select important text content to create a highlight, quickly marking key information.
- Area Highlight: Use selection boxing to highlight specific areas in the PDF. This feature is particularly useful for marking charts, images, or multiple paragraphs that need attention together.
Browsing and Managing Highlights
- Open the highlights list in the left sidebar to easily browse all highlights in the PDF.
- Click any highlight to immediately jump to its position in the document for quick navigation.
- Each highlight supports adding notes, where you can record thoughts, questions, or related information.
- Flexible color management allows setting different colors for highlights, modifying existing highlight colors, and filtering or sorting highlights by color.
Managing Highlights in the Library
Each PDF highlight in the library is an independent entity with the following features:
- View the highlighted content and notes.
- Click the Locate button to quickly open the source PDF and jump to the highlight's reference position.
Batch Management Features
- Multi-select Highlights: Hold and drag to select multiple highlights and add tags for classification, making filtering and searching more efficient.
- Project Management: Select multiple highlights and add them to a project for better organization.
Using Highlights on the Canvas
Using highlights on the canvas is also very convenient. You can:
- Open the PDF in the right-side panel, then drag and drop highlights onto the canvas.
- The highlight object on the canvas displays the PDF title, highlight color, and highlight note.
- Double-click the highlight object or click the Locate icon to open the source PDF in the right-side panel and automatically locate the corresponding position.
Alternative Methods
If you don’t want to drag, you can also:
- Copy the highlight's deep link and paste it onto the canvas.
- Choose Embed Mode, where the highlight will display completely. The canvas provides a nonlinear way to organize PDF highlights, making it easier to break down complex documents and extract meaningful insights.
Using Highlights in Cards and Journals
Using PDF highlights in cards and journals is just as easy. After opening the PDF in the right sidebar, you can drag highlights into a card, with a dropdown menu offering two display modes:
- Mention Mode: Displays as a link.
- Embed Mode: Displays complete highlight information.
Conclusion
By combining these features, you can fully utilize Noteey's PDF highlighting capabilities to enhance learning and research efficiency.
